MY STORY

RS photo.JPG

BECKY SWEENEY

I have spent my life, since the age of 11, on low fat diets - even trying diet pills to lose weight. My body was so unhappy that it was giving me warning signs to stop sabotaging my body and health!

Just because someone may 'look' what we think is 'healthy', doesn't mean they are.

I have always struggled with my weight. Since the age of 11 I started 'dieting' - not eating breakfast (my mum had to force it down me), eating a small roll with a slice of low fat wafer thin ham (no butter) or a small salad with no protein and an apple at lunch. All of my friends would sit there eating crisps and chocolate bars from the vending machine, whilst I sat there and wondered how they could eat these things on a daily basis and not get fat!

I developed IBS at the age of 11, as well as problems with my hormones, eventually developing panic attacks. Looking back, I cannot believe I wasn't recognising these alarm bells!

The problems continued...

I was ALWAYS at the doctors, being prescribed all sorts of different medication for my IBS as well as eventually being put on painkillers and the contraceptive pill to try and control my hormones (not that any of them worked). I was also on beta blockers for the panic attacks - all of this during my teenage years!

Finally a diagnosis!

By the time I got to the age of 21 I was suffering badly, doubled over in pain and falling asleep at my desk and looking 6 months pregnant after eating anything. A colleague said suggested going back to the doctors to ask them to investigate for endometriosis, the doctors were reluctant still blaming IBS for the symptoms. One laparoscopy later = widespread endometriosis! In total i had 4 laparoscopies to keep treating the endometriosis, which kept coming back, this again was a sign that they were not the answer and nor were all of the different contraceptive pills that the doctors kept trialling me on.

Beginning to see the cause...

At this point I was on yet another low fat diet - Weight Watchers. I was being very strict, had lost 3 stone and was keeping within my 'points'. I was going to the gym 5x per week, sometimes twice in one day if I was doing a class UNTIL my back went! I then had weekly osteopathy appointments to treat it, but my back just kept going - no surprise there with all of the inflammation going on inside my poor, overstressed body!

My Osteopath was also a Chek trained Holistic Lifestyle Coach, and after asking me about my diet and lifetyle, suggested i replace my cous cous salad with 8 prawns that I had for lunch each day (because it was low in points!) with chicken and avocado - "GASP! Avocado - do you know how many points in an avocado??" I replied. She also suggested I replace my 'low point' nutella with almond butter - again, this suggestion was like swearing at me!

She suggested I read the book 'How to Eat, Move & Be Healthy' by Paul Chek....... This was the turning point in my life which eventually lead to me changing careers so that I can help others improve their health. I am so passionate about helping others and LOVE what I do.

I no longer take ANY Medication!

The only doctors I now need in my life are:

  • Dr Diet (good quality, organic/chemical free REAL food!),

  • Dr Movement (it's all about balance, you may need to 'work in' instead of 'work out'),

  • Dr Quiet (we all need sleep & quiet time with our modern adrenaline fuelled lifestyles),

  • Dr Happiness (how many of you actually make time to do things that make you happy?)
